M S Benbow & Associates Team Earns Safety Excellence Award
DIMS Group at Shell/Motiva Norco achieves 10,000+ hour safety record
NORCO, LA—June 6, 2013—M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) was recognized with the 2012 Safety Excellence Award for its workplace safety performance at the Shell Norco Chemical Plant and Motiva Norco Refinery in St. Charles Parish, La.
MSB’s Drawing Integrity Management System (DIMS) Group with assistance from the MSB Corporate Office Drafting Department in Metairie, La., is responsible for maintaining integrity of the piping system at the Shell/Motiva facility. The group was commended for its record of working 10,000+ hours without an OSHA-recordable injury or First Aid Injury in 2012.
Kevin R. Patton, Project Coordinator and Safety Manager for MSB, accepted the award during a presentation last month. “Maintaining a safe operation requires the commitment of every employee. Health and safety is a top priority at Norco, and we’re proud to be part of Shell/Motiva Norco’s excellent safety record,” Patton said.
The MSB on-site and off-site teams are responsible for providing refinery inspectors accurate Corrosion Measurement Location (CML) drawings that are used for testing, maintenance and correcting deficiencies of equipment and piping systems at the facilities. The MSB teams also update various types of drawings for Shell/Motiva PEI Department’s Process Safety Management Program in accordance with OSHA regulations and conducts field verification to ensure system safety.
MSB specializes in the fields of Telecommunications & Technology, Electrical Power Systems, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering and CADD (Design & Drafting) services. In addition to engineering services, MSB also provides a wide range of field and site acceptance testing, startup/ commissioning services and specialty installation services.
The firm recently completed the design and project management of the multimillion dollar cellular and WiFi expansion at the Mercedes Benz Superdome and New Orleans Arena sports complex, power system designs for Eagle Ford and Bakken Shale natural gas projects, and computer-based process control upgrades for refineries. It also completed several in-building wireless system designs and installations at facilities such as East Jefferson Hospital, as well as engineered and managed installation of a regional multi-agency public safety radio network, the Louisiana Region One Interoperable Communications System.
