Leo L. Holzenthal, Jr., P.E., Named to Core Element Board of Directors
Nonprofit Supports Educational Curricula to Inspire Interest in STEM Fields
METAIRIE, La.—March 7, 2019—M S Benbow & Associates (MSB) President Leo Holzenthal, Jr., P.E., has been elected to the board of directors of the Greater New Orleans STEM Initiative (GNOSTEM), formerly Core Element, a non-profit dedicated to promoting quality teaching in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) in the Greater New Orleans Region.
Holzenthal has more than 30 years of experience in Power, Control Systems and Telecommunications Engineering and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at the engineering consultancy, which operates two offices in Greater New Orleans area, Houston and Dallas with more than 100 employees. Holzenthal is an adjunct professor at the University of New Orleans College of Engineering. He earned the 2015 James M. Todd Technological Accomplishment Award from the Louisiana Engineering Society.
“Part of our mission at MSB is to support science and math education programs to help the next generation develop a passion for our field. I am excited to serve on the board of Core Element, which works to support teachers and provide programs to prepare students today for high-demand careers of the 21st century,” Holzenthal said.
GNOSTEM provides teacher professional development, STEM educational curricula and support for enrichment activities for middle school students to inspire an interest in the STEM fields. The organization also offers “Hands on STEM” Interactive Robotics Summer Camps focused on bringing teachers and students together to experience robotics hands on.
